Writing for Digit Magazine
Tech and science features I wrote for Digit, circa 2015-2017
Before I wrote software, one of the first things I happily did for “work” was write, mostly features and how-tos for Digit, India’s big consumer-technology magazine. It was a wonderful sandbox for a curious generalist. One month the science of a zombie apocalypse, the next a guide to hardening your Mac, the next how the tech giants were trying to wire up the planet. Looking back, the through-line was always the same: take something technical or strange, and make it clear (and hopefully a little fun).
The full archive lives on my Digit author page. A few of my favourites:
- The truth about dating algorithms : what match-making algorithms (Tinder, OkCupid, and friends) are actually doing under the hood.
- ‘Forever alone’ might not be such a horrible way to be : a gentler look at solitude and being single.
- If India is under nuclear attack, here’s how you can survive : a (hopefully never needed) practical survival guide.
- How to secure your Mac OS X : a hands-on guide to hardening macOS.
- Notorious Nano-villains: The rise of the superbug : antibiotic resistance at the scale of the very small.
- The science behind the zombie apocalypse : the real biology a hypothetical outbreak would have to borrow.
- Space Superstitions: The strangest superstitions of space travel : the oddly human rituals of people who fly on rockets.
- The geek’s guide to making promo videos the smart way, all by yourself! : a DIY production guide for the one-person studio.
- How the tech giants are trying to spread the internet to every corner of the globe : Loon, Free Basics, and the race to connect the unconnected.
- Fix iTunes in less than 5 steps : a small mercy for a frustrating app.
- Simplifying the UX design process : a beginner-friendly primer on the fundamentals of UX.
